Financial Aid FAFSA Verification Process Change

Hello Student,

In our continued efforts to improve service, the Bainbridge College Financial Aid Department is making major improvements to the way we serve you. We are introducing an online, paperless process to collect information and documents for those students selected for “Verification” based on answers from your Free Application for Student Financial Aid (FAFSA).

This new process is a big change from what you might be used to. In the past, you either faxed your Verification documents or brought them into the Financial Aid Office. Now, you can complete the process entirely online. This process can be completed from your home, work, or campus computers. You can go directly to the campus computers without waiting in the financial aid line. This process will go into effect beginning with this upcoming Summer Semester for submission of the 2011-12 FAFSA and this upcoming Fall Semester for the 2012-13 FAFSA. This will only affect you if you are selected for Verification after submitting your FAFSA.

How It Works

If you’re selected for Verification, you will receive an email from Bainbridge College. This email will contain a Personal URL (PURL) that you must use to access the new Bainbridge College Financial Aid webpage to authenticate who you are, register, and begin the process. It is absolutely necessary that you use the PURL provided in the e-mail to initially access the website. If you do not use this URL, you will not be able to complete the process, which will affect our ability to review your file for a potential financial aid award. If you are planning to access a computer on campus to complete this process, please make sure you have access to this initial e-mail via the campus computer so that you will have the PURL necessary to begin the process. You will have to complete the entire process and submit everything for review in order to receive your financial aid award.

Your Parent(s) May Need to Submit Information, Too

If you are a “dependent” student and had to provide information about your parents when you filled out your FAFSA, your parent(s) will have to complete the Verification process too. You will need to have your parent’s e-mail address, date of birth and Social Security Number available when you register in the site, so that they can receive an e-mail with instructions to access the website and complete the process.

Questions?

If you have any questions about the process, please contact the Financial Aid Department at the Bainbridge campus or the Blakely Site.

Sincerely,

Rich Messersmith
